VLC is one of the open source media player and it supports more codecs. It is avail for all linux distributions. This tutorial explains you how to install VLC player on openSUSE. There are three ways to install vlc
  • Using 1 Click Install method
  • Using YaST interface
  • Using installtion source
Using 1 Click Install Method
  • Install VLC for openSUSE 12.1
  • Install VLC for openSUSE 11.4
  • Install VLC for openSUSE 11.3

  • Install VLC for openSUSE 11.1
    Install VLC from Source
    Install VLC using YaST
openSUSE does not come with VLC repository and so we need to add the repo information in the repository file. To add a repository go YaST2 -> Software -> Installation Sources and then add the following lines in it
    Type: HTTP / Servername: download.videolan.org /
    Directory: /pub/videolan/vlc/SuSE/<SUSE Version>
    Replace <SUSE Version> with 11.1 (or) 11.2 (or) 11.3 (or) 11.4 (or) 12.1
Finally confirm the addition and the repository is signed with a GPG key.  Accept t key and YaST will warn you in case there is something suspect with the repository.  Accept everything by clicking Finish.
    Now install VLC Player
  • Go to Software Management and type VLC in the searchbox
  • Select VLC and click Accept to install it with all its dependencies.
If you want VLC’s Mozilla Plugin, you have to select the vlc-mozillaplugin manually. It does not get installed by default
Thats all !!
